Chennai-Based Start-Up VyomIC Plans India's First Private GPS Constellation

Chennai, 23 September (H.S.) : VyomIC, a Chennai-based space start-up, is set to create India's first private global satellite constellation to offer advanced positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. The initiative aims to provide a secure and highly precise alternative to existing navigation systems.

Founded by IIT-Madras alumni Lokesh Kabdal, Vibhor Jain, and Anurag Patil, the company has successfully secured USD 1.6 million in pre-seed funding. This capital infusion, led by Speciale Invest with participation from BYT Capital and DeVC, will be utilized to develop their LEO (Low Earth Orbit)-based PNT payload, support a spaceborne demonstration mission, and expand the team.

According to VyomIC co-founder Vibhor Jain, the company's objective is to build a next-gen global system engineered for security, autonomy, and precision, rather than just an Indian alternative to GPS. The proposed technology is designed to deliver centimeter-level positioning and nanosecond-level timing, which are critical for various applications including defence, finance, and autonomous systems.

The system is also being developed to be resistant to spoofing and jamming, offering improved signal strength and broader coverage compared to current systems.
