Tyler Robinson, 22, a Utah native, has been identified as the man charged with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Robinson lived with his parents and was apprehended after a family member—reportedly his father—recognized surveillance images released to the public. His father persuaded him to surrender, and a family friend contacted law enforcement, ending a nationwide manhunt.

Robinson was not a student at Utah Valley University, where the shooting occurred, but attended Dixie Technical College in an electrical apprenticeship program.He comes from a family described as Mormon and active in their local church. His parents are Matthew Carl Robinson, who runs a kitchen countertop and cabinet installation business, and Amber Denise Robinson, a social worker.He has an educational background marked by strong academic performances and involvement in technical studies. He graduated from Pine View High School in St. George, Utah, in 2021, where he was known as a bright and diligent student, taking college-level courses and Advanced Placement calculus. Robinson earned a scholarship to Utah State University, where he majored in pre-engineering but attended for only one semester in 2021 before leaving the institution.

Currently, Robinson is enrolled as a third-year student in the electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College. He lived in an apartment in St. George, Utah, close to his family's residence, and was described by neighbors as reclusive and quiet. Social media posts highlight his academic achievements, including a near-perfect GPA in middle school and a presidential scholarship video shared by his mother.

Robinson has become more politically active in recent years, exhibiting hostility toward Kirk, whom he described as full of hate and spreading hate during a discussion shortly before the shooting. While registered as an unaffiliated voter, his parents are registered Republicans.

Investigators found messages on Discord indicating plans to retrieve and hide a rifle used in the shooting, a Mauser bolt-action rifle. Several bullet casings recovered bore inscriptions referencing internet memes and anti-fascist slogans, including Hey fascist! Catch! and lyrics from the Italian partisan anthem Bella Ciao. Discord suspended Robinson's account for violating platform policies.

Robinson's roommate provided evidentiary messages explaining how the weapon was obtained and hidden. Robinson remains in custody as state prosecutors prepare formal charges for aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony firearm discharge.

The FBI continues to investigate Robinson's motives and affiliations amid a tense political atmosphere following this significant assassination .
