Utah, USA, September 13(HS):
Tyler Robinson, 22, from Utah, has been apprehended for the fatal shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed while addressing students at Utah Valley University. The arrest came after a prolonged 33-hour search and was facilitated by Robinson's father, who persuaded him to surrender to authorities.
Robinson confessed his involvement to his father, expressing a preference to take his own life rather than be caught. A youth pastor and court security officer, who was a family friend, helped mediate until the US Marshals detained Robinson late Thursday.
Surveillance footage places Robinson on the university campus about four hours before the shooting. He was wearing clothing consistent with images captured at the scene. Investigators learned from family and associates that Robinson had become politically radicalized, reportedly harboring hostility towards Kirk, calling him full of hate and spreading hate.
Law enforcement recovered the suspected weapon, a Mauser .30-06 rifle with a scope, found wrapped in a towel near the campus. Casings engraved with politically charged inscriptions like hey fascist! CATCH! and an anti-fascist Italian partisan song title Bella ciao were also discovered.
Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm. The campus remains closed as the community copes with the aftermath. Students expressed relief at the arrest but remain anxious to understand his motives.
Robinson was reportedly unaffiliated politically but had Republican parents and had not voted in recent presidential elections. He is a third-year electrical apprenticeship student at Dixie Technical College and part of an active Mormon family.
The investigation continues as prosecutors prepare formal charges for Tuesday, marking a significant chapter in the politically charged killing of a prominent conservative figure .
