Washington, September 11(HS): Former US Vice-President Kamala Harris has delivered a sharp critique of Joe Biden’s decision to seek a second term, calling it “recklessness” in an excerpt from her forthcoming memoir, 107 Days. Harris reflects that the decision was framed repeatedly as “Joe and Jill’s,” a mantra imparted as if under hypnosis, but in hindsight, she believes the stakes were too high to be left to personal ambition alone.
In the excerpt published by The Atlantic, Harris reveals feeling sidelined by Biden’s team and denied credit for significant work, including millions secured in investments to address root causes of migration. She also candidly describes her struggle to advise Biden against running, fearing it would be seen as self-serving or disloyalty.
Harris acknowledges Biden’s age and fatigue as factors impacting his cognitive and physical performance during the 2024 race, though she stops short of questioning his capacity. The memoir also exposes strained White House dynamics, highlighting a lack of support from Biden’s communications team during her election campaign and criticisms she endured.
The full memoir is scheduled for release later this month, with Harris embarking on a book tour across the US, UK, and Canada.
