Imphal, 10 September (HS): In a significant breakthrough, Manipur Police have apprehended a 26-year-old rebel belonging to the banned outfit PREPAK from Imphal West district.

The arrested cadre has been identified as Khangembam Chingkheiganba Meitei, a resident of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai. He was intercepted during a police operation in the Haoreibi Awang Leikai locality, under the jurisdiction of Wangoi police station.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Meitei had been actively involved in extortion, demanding money from local shopkeepers and members of the public.

Following the arrest, authorities have intensified security measures in sensitive pockets of the district to prevent further unlawful activities by insurgent groups.--------------
