New Delhi, September 1(HS): In a landmark decision set to redefine the future of women’s cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a fourfold increase in prize money for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Scheduled from September 30 to November 2 across India and Sri Lanka, the winning team will receive a record $4.48 million, marking a historic milestone in the sport.
ICC President Jay Shah hailed the move as a pivotal moment in women’s cricket, emphasizing the commitment to gender pay parity and equal respect for female cricketers on par with their male counterparts. This substantial prize hike underscores ICC’s vision to elevate women’s cricket and inspire the next generation of players globally.
The total prize pool for the tournament has been set at $13.88 million, nearly 297 percent higher than the $3.5 million prize fund of the previous edition held in New Zealand in 2022. Notably, this amount also surpasses the prize money for the 2023 men’s World Cup, which stood at $10 million. The matches will be hosted across five venues: Guwahati, Indore, Navi Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo.
