Injury Blow: Paula Badosa to Miss 2025 US Open

New York, August 9 (HS): Spanish tennis star and former world No. 2 Paula Badosa has pulled out of the upcoming US Open to recover from a persistent back injury. Tournament organizers confirmed her withdrawal on Friday.

Currently ranked world No. 12, Badosa has been battling chronic injury problems, including an old lower back issue that once made her consider retirement. She last competed at Wimbledon, where she lost in the first round, later revealing a strain in her psoas muscle—which connects the lower back to the upper leg.

Following her exit, Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann will enter the tournament’s main singles draw. The US Open singles competition begins on August 24, 2025.

Badosa has also withdrawn from the newly introduced mixed doubles event, where she was set to partner with Britain’s Jack Draper.

Her absence marks a setback for one of the sport’s top players, who reached the Australian Open semifinals earlier this year and the US Open quarterfinals in 2024.
