New Delhi, August 9(HS): India’s annual defence production has soared to an unprecedented ₹1,50,590 crore in FY 2024-25, marking an 18% jump from the previous year’s ₹1.27 lakh crore and a remarkable 90% surge since FY 2019-20.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement as a clear sign of India’s strengthening indigenous defence industrial base. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and other state-run units contributed about 77% of total production, while the private sector’s share rose to 23%, reflecting a 28% annual growth.
Government policy reforms, improved ease of doing business, and a strong push for indigenisation under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative have driven this growth. The private sector’s expanding role, along with enhanced export capabilities, is reshaping the country’s defence landscape.
Defence exports also reached a record ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024-25, up 12% from last year. With sustained policy backing and rising private participation, the industry is poised for continued momentum in the coming years.
