New Delhi, Aug 9 (HS): India has reported a record 260 doping cases so far in 2024, surpassing the previous high of 224 in 2019, the Sports Ministry informed the Rajya Sabha. Out of 7,466 tests conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), these positives mark the highest tally in the nation’s history.

Athletics led with 76 violations, followed by weightlifting (43), wrestling (29), and boxing (17). In comparison, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) reported 213 doping cases in India in 2023.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reiterated the government’s commitment to a “zero tolerance” approach to doping, stressing stricter testing and awareness measures to ensure clean and fair competition.
