New Delhi, August 9 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of World Sanskrit Day, observed annually on Shravan Poornima. Describing Sanskrit as “a timeless source of knowledge and expression,” he said its influence spans diverse fields.

Today, on Shravan Poornima, we mark World Sanskrit Day. Sanskrit is a timeless source of knowledge and expression. Its impact can be found across sectors. This day is an occasion to appreciate the effort of every person around the world who is learning and popularising Sanskrit,the post reads on X.

The Prime Minister lauded the dedication of scholars, students, and enthusiasts worldwide who continue to learn, teach, and promote the ancient language. He reiterated his government’s commitment to preserving and advancing Sanskrit heritage.

PM Modi noted that, over the past decade, the government has launched multiple initiatives to strengthen Sanskrit learning and research. These include establishing Central Sanskrit Universities, opening Sanskrit Learning Centres, offering grants to Sanskrit scholars, and rolling out the Gyan Bharatam Mission for the digitisation of manuscripts—benefiting thousands of students and researchers.

In messages posted on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the day is an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of everyone working to keep the language alive and relevant.

“Over the last decade, our Government has undertaken many efforts to make Sanskrit popular.
