New Delhi, August 9(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the arrival of the first-ever freight train to the Kashmir Valley, calling it a “great day for commerce and connectivity.” The development marks the region’s integration into India’s national freight network, a major boost for trade and logistics.

Great day for commerce and connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir! It will enhance both progress and prosperity, PM Modi on X.

The inaugural train reached the Anantnag Goods Shed as part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. Officials say the new connection will cut transportation costs, support local businesses, and ensure year-round supply of goods, even in challenging weather.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the achievement as a transformative step for Jammu and Kashmir’s economic growth and infrastructure development, paving the way for greater regional integration.
