Chennai, 31 August (H.S.) : A violent incident unfolded on the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) campus in Madurai, where three students were arrested for assaulting a fellow student. The incident occurred on Freshers' Day, which was organized on Thursday. The victim, a first-year student of History, was seen riding a bike inside the university campus, which allegedly angered some senior students.
According to sources, bike riding is prohibited inside the campus, and a separate parking space is designated at the entrance. When the victim was riding his bike at high speed, some second-year Commerce students took offense and stopped him, leading to a brutal assault. The incident sparked protests from students demanding action against the perpetrators.
The Pettai police filed a case based on a complaint and arrested the three students involved in the assault. To prevent any further untoward incidents, the university administration decided to close the campus temporarily, suspending all classes on Friday. However, official sources confirmed that the university would reopen on Monday, and classes would resume as usual.
