Delhi, 31 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tianjin, China, on Saturday(August 30,2025), marking his first visit to China in seven years amid a complex geopolitical landscape. PM Modi received an enthusiastic and culturally rich welcome from the Indian diaspora in Tianjin, featuring classical Indian dance performances like Kathak, Odissi, and soulful renditions of “Vande Mataram” on sitar and tabla by Chinese artists trained in Indian classical music, embodying vibrant India-China cultural ties.

PM Modi’s agenda is intensely focused on strategic diplomacy at the 25th SCO Summit, where he joins key global leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The visit comes against the backdrop of frayed India-US relations following punitive US tariffs on Indian goods and Russian oil imports, making China and SCO vital platforms for India to assert its growing global influence.

A high-profile bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping is scheduled, where PM Modi aims to normalize and strengthen economic ties, promote trade, ease border tensions, and enhance regional connectivity. This follow-up to recent diplomatic thaw efforts seeks to stabilize relations post the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes. Modi recognizes the shared responsibility of India and China to contribute to global economic stability amid global uncertainties.

PM Modi will also engage with Putin, reflecting on deepening India-Russia cooperation amid Western sanctions on Moscow. Apart from summit deliberations about sustainable development, regional security, and counter-terrorism,PM Modi’s interactions are critical for balancing India’s multi-aligned foreign policy approach amid US-China rivalry.

The visit’s itinerary includes summit participation on August 31 and September 1, followed by high-level bilateral talks expected to shape Eurasian geopolitics and mark a key moment in PM Modi’s Asia diplomacy, signaling India’s rising role in Global South solidarity and regional stability efforts. PM Modi’s warm reception and proactive diplomacy underscore India’s strategic intent within the SCO framework and beyond.

This landmark visit revitalizes India-China engagement, emphasizing economic collaboration, peace along the frontier, and multilateral cooperation against the backdrop of a turbulent global order
