Prayagraj, 31 Aug (HS): A criminal carrying a bounty of Rs. 25,000 was injured in an
encounter that took place on Sunday morning in Phaphamau Bela Kachhar in
Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. The police team has admitted him to the
hospital for treatment. The injured criminal was wanted in a gang rape case.
This information was given by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ganganagar Kuldeep
Singh Gunawat. He said that the culprit has been identified as Anil Bhartiya
alias Barsaati, son of Ramfer Bhartiya, resident of Gadiyani village of Mauaima
police station area of Prayagraj. He was wanted in the gang rape case near
the Curzon Bridge, Phaphamau. A reward of Rs. 25,000 was announced for his
arrest. He said that the police team recovered a pistol, two empty cartridges
and a motorcycle without number plate from his possession.
As part of the campaign being run
against criminals, the joint police team of Phaphamau and S.O.G. Surveillance
Cell Ganganagar, while on route diversion duty near Malak Harhar in Phaphamau
police station area, received information from an informer that an accused, who
has a reward of Rs. 25,000 on his head, related to the rape that took place
near Curzon Bridge a few days ago, was seen in the evening on the road near
Malak Harhar Bela Kachhar in Phaphamau police station area. On the above
information, the joint police team of Phaphamau police station, S.O.G. and
Surveillance Cell Ganganagar immediately reached the place told by the
informer. When the suspect, who was sitting near a motorcycle, saw the police
coming towards them, he started running away from there. The police team chased
and surrounded him. Seeing himself surrounded, the suspect took cover behind
the construction material lying on the spot and fired at the police force with
a pistol. Barsaati got injured in the retaliatory firing done by the police
force in self-defense. He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. A
case of gang rape has been registered against him in Phaphamau. Legal action
will be taken against him and he will be sent to jail.
