Delhi/Tianjin(China),August 30(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin on Saturday(August 30, 2025) marking his first visit to China in over seven years. This visit is timed with the 25th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), scheduled to take place on August 31 and September 1, 2025. The summit, hosted by China for the fifth time under the chairmanship of President Xi Jinping, promises to be the largest and most ambitious gathering in the organization’s history, with more than 20 heads of state and leaders of key international organizations in attendance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is formally welcomed on arrival in Tianjin, China by senior Chinese officials and dignitaries representing the host government at the airport.

In a post on X ,PM Modi wrote,Landed in Tianjin, China. Looking forward to deliberations at the SCO Summit and meeting various world leaders.

During the two-day summit, Prime Minister Modi will engage in critical deliberations on regional security, counter-terrorism, connectivity, sustainable development, and enhanced global cooperation. India’s active role underscores its commitment to fostering multilateral dialogue and advancing shared objectives within the SCO framework.

Significantly, PM Modi is scheduled for bilateral meetings with key world leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. These discussions come at a time of cautious diplomatic thaw following years of tensions between India and China, particularly after border confrontations in the Galwan Valley and efforts in recent months to normalize relations. The summit also offers a platform to address broader geopolitical challenges and economic cooperation in the region.

In a gesture highlighting cultural ties, PM Modi is set to witness a performance of India’s traditional Kathak dance by Chinese dancers trained in the art form, symbolizing deepening cultural exchange.
