Chennai, 28 August (H.S.) : Chief Minister M K Stalin has urged the Union government to provide relief to the Tirupur textile industry, which is facing a severe crisis. Stalin made the demand in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the industry's struggles due to increased production costs, labor shortages, and global market competition.
The CM pointed out that the industry, which is a major employment generator in the state, is struggling to stay afloat due to various challenges. He requested the Centre to provide financial assistance, tax exemptions, and other support measures to help the industry overcome its difficulties.
Stalin also sought the Centre's intervention to resolve issues related to labor welfare, power supply, and export-import policies, which are affecting the industry's competitiveness. The CM emphasized that the Tirupur textile industry's survival is crucial for the state's economy and employment.
The industry, which is one of the largest employers in Tamil Nadu, has been facing difficulties in recent years due to increased competition from other countries and rising production costs. The CM's demand for relief is seen as a significant move to support the industry and protect the livelihoods of thousands of workers.
