New Delhi, Aug 27 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the death of devotees following a landslide on the route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to X, the Prime Minister said the loss of lives was “saddening” and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident, assuring that local authorities are actively assisting those affected.

Rescue teams and the administration have been pressed into service to clear the route and ensure the safety of thousands of pilgrims who were en route to the shrine. Officials are closely monitoring the situation amid continued rainfall in the region, which has heightened the risk of further landslides.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple, one of India’s most visited pilgrimage sites, witnesses heavy footfall during the holy season. Authorities have urged devotees to remain cautious as weather conditions remain unstable in the hills.
