New Delhi, August 27 (HS): Continuous heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir has triggered flooding in parts of the Jammu region and forced the suspension of flight operations at Leh Airport after mud and slush accumulated on the runway and taxiways.
Air India on Wednesday announced the cancellation of all scheduled flights to and from Leh for August 27, citing adverse weather conditions. The airline advised passengers to either contact their respective travel agents or reach out to its 24x7 customer care center for rebooking options or full refunds.
“Due to inclement weather, Leh Airport runway remains closed and flight operations stand disrupted,” Air India said in a travel advisory, assuring passengers of necessary support during the disruption.
Earlier, Delhi Airport issued a revised NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), attributing the suspension of services to the water-logging and mud deposits caused by heavy rains. According to the advisory, flight operations at the high-altitude airport will remain suspended until at least 7 a.m. on August 28.
This marks the third consecutive day of disruptions at Leh Airport due to weather-related conditions, severely affecting connectivity to the region.
