Union Minister Manohar Lal Reviews Swachh Survekshan 2025 Preparations, Launches ‘Clean City Pairing’ Initiative

New Delhi, August 26 (HS): Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal on Tuesday reviewed the preparations for Swachh Survekshan 2025, holding a detailed meeting on strategies related to the Swachhta Pakhwada campaign, legacy waste management, citizen participation, use of sanitation apps, and unit-based cleanliness targets.

In a post following the review, the Minister emphasized that all departments and urban local bodies must work collectively to achieve the goals of the cleanliness survey and create healthier cities across India.

Marking the occasion, Manohar Lal also launched the pioneering ‘Swachh Shehar Jodi’ (Clean City Pairing) initiative. Under the scheme, 72 top-performing cities will mentor 72 emerging cities on the lines of the “Each One, Teach One” model, sharing best practices in sanitation and waste management.

“This initiative will promote collaboration and knowledge exchange between cities, enabling the replication of successful cleanliness models and improving implementation capacity,” the minister said. He further noted that the program would not only strengthen institutional guidance but also provide a sustained platform for peer-to-peer learning.

Officials said the move is expected to give fresh impetus to the Swachh Bharat Mission, propelling India towards new benchmarks of urban cleanliness and sustainable sanitation.
