Sonitpur (Assam), 26 August (HS): Despite strict laws and police clampdown on cattle theft in Assam, such incidents continue to rise. Last night, three cattle were stolen from Agripam village in Jamugurihat under Sonitpur district.
According to reports, thieves targeted the cattle shed of Lal Bahadur Tiwari, a resident of Agripam and escaped with three cattle. The theft came to light this morning when the family went to feed the animals and found them missing.
An FIR has been lodged at Jamugurihat police station and police have started an investigation. Locals alleged that cattle thefts have been occurring frequently in different villages of the North Cachar Hills area, but none of the culprits have been caught so far, leading to growing resentment among villagers.
