Seoul Floats Possible Trump-Kim Summit Later This Year

Seoul , August 26(HS):

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has proposed that U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meet later this year, provided Trump travels to Seoul for a regional forum.

According to Lee’s office, the suggestion came during a “pleasant” Oval Office meeting on Monday, where the two leaders exchanged compliments and even reflected on past assassination attempts against them.

Lee’s spokesperson, Kang Yu-jung, emphasized that while the discussion was cordial, it did not touch upon Washington’s contentious demand that Seoul further open its market to U.S. agricultural products.

If realized, the meeting could mark the most significant engagement between Washington and Pyongyang since Trump’s previous attempts at direct diplomacy with Kim during his earlier presidency.
