Guwahati, 26 August (HS): Assam BJP General Secretary Pallav Lochan Das announced that the upcoming Panchayat Representatives’ Conclave to be held on August 29 at Khanapara playground in Guwahati in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will mark the beginning of the NDA’s campaign for the 2026 Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP’s state headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, Das said that top leadership from BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Rabha Hasong Joint Struggle Committee and Janashakti Party will attend the event. Around 20,000 elected representatives are expected, including 19,198 BJP Panchayat representatives and over 1,500 AGP representatives, along with members from various autonomous councils such as Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. However, keeping election strategies in mind, no representatives from the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) will be present.

Das further informed that Amit Shah will attend two government programmes and one political event during his visit to Guwahati. Before the Panchayat conclave at 11 AM, Shah will inaugurate the newly built “Assam Raj Bhavan.” Later, after the conclave, he will launch the centenary celebrations of Golap Borbora, Assam’s first non-Congress Chief Minister, at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in a solemn state-level ceremony.
