Guwahati, 26 August (HS): Karbi Anglong District Congress President Ratan Engti on Tuesday alleged that Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang has mortgaged the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, which is already reeling under debts of over ₹200 crore.
Addressing a press meet at Rajiv Bhawan, Engti claimed that as per RTI records, the Assam Government illegally transferred 1,53,250 bighas of Karbi Anglong land to outside industrial groups, including Adani, Ambani, Ramdev, Godrej and APDCL, for various projects. He said land of the autonomous hill district cannot be allotted to non-tribals.
Engti further alleged large-scale corruption under Ronghang, including misuse of ₹100 crore afforestation funds, allotment of contracts to relatives and amassing property under benami names. He accused CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister Pijush Hazarika of patronising illegal mining and land transfer businesses.
The press meet was also attended by former legislators and Karbi leaders.--------
