Mumbai, 26 Aug (HS): The Bombay High Court
has stopped Maratha leader Manoj Jarange from staging demonstrations at Mumbai’s
Azad Maidan without prior permission. Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court
Alok Aradhe and Justice Sandip Marne said that demonstrations at any public place
will not be allowed without prior permission. The permission was denied so that routine transport and the lives of common people are not disturbed. The State
Government is open to granting permission for the agitation at Kharghar or in Navi
Mumbai, the court added.
Responding to the Court decision, Jarange
said, If permission can be granted at other places, why not Azad Maidan? Our
lawyers will present our case in the court, and we have full faith in the
judiciary, as the agitation is as per the democratic procedure.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra
Fadnavis, through his personal secretary tried to convince Jarange to stop the
proposed demonstrations. Jarange, however, is firm on staging the demonstrations
on August 29. His supporters will start moving towards Mumbai on August 27.
