-Prof. Prabhashankar Premi Named for ‘Dakshin Bharat Shabd Hindi Sevi Samman’
Bengaluru, August 25 (HS): The renowned literary institution Shabd, dedicated to promoting Hindi writing, has announced the recipients of its annual awards for 2025. The Agyeya Shabd Srijan Samman will be awarded to acclaimed Hindi poet Jacinta Kerketta, while the Dakshin Bharat Shabd Hindi Sevi Samman will be presented to eminent educationist Prof. Prabhashankar Premi. The honors will be conferred on August 28 during a special ceremony.
In an official statement released on Monday, Shabd President Dr. Srinarayan Sameer said the awardees were selected on the recommendation of a five-member evaluation committee comprising respected Hindi scholars and writers, including Babulal Gupta, Shrikant Parashar, Nalini Popat, Dr. Usharani Rao and Dr. Sameer himself. He mentioned that the committee reviewed 35 nominations this year.
The jury unanimously decided to bestow the ₹1 lakh Agyeya Shabd Srijan Samman on Kerketta for her poetry collection “Prem Mein Ped Hona” (Becoming a Tree in Love). The ₹25,000 Dakshin Bharat Shabd Hindi Sevi Samman will go to Prof. Premi in recognition of his significant contributions to promoting Hindi language and literature in Karnataka’s higher and adult education sectors.
The awards will be presented at the Saraswat Sammelan in Bengaluru on December 28, 2025, where both honorees will also be felicitated with a traditional Mysore Peta (turban), commemorative plaque, coconut (Shrifal), and Angavastram (ceremonial shawl).
Dr. Sameer added that the Agyeya Shabd Srijan Samman is supported by the foundation of Babulal Gupta, a distinguished philanthropist and connoisseur of Agyeya’s works, while the Dakshin Bharat Shabd Hindi Sevi Samman is sponsored by the prominent Hindi newspaper group Dakshin Bharat Rashtramat, published from Bengaluru and Chennai.
