Kanpur, 26 Aug (HS): A young software developer working
in the cyber security department of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur
(IIT-K) reportedly committed suicide at his rented residence here, police said.
Deepak Chowdhary, the deceased, was from Maharashtra and wrote a suicide letter
apologizing to his parents and indicating that he was unable to keep up with
improvements in the cyber security area, according to them. Chowdhary had
worked at the institute's Cyber Security Department for the previous two years,
according to IIT-K head Manindra Agarwal. Prior to the incident, he discussed
his difficulties with a senior faculty member. Agarwal said he was told to keep
working hard and that he will succeed.
According to Ranjeet Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur),
Chowdhary was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan with a plastic rope. A scribbled
suicide note found in his notebook read, I don't drink or do anything
wrong. Mom and Dad, please forgive
me. According to investigators, Chowdhary seemed happy on Sunday night, eating
and speaking with companions. On Monday,
however, when he did not reply to numerous calls and knocks, his pals called
the police. They looked inside through a window and discovered his body
hanging. Following the completion of
formalities, a forensic team forced open the door, collected evidence, and shut
the chamber. The corpse was transported for postmortem, and the family was
notified. Dinesh Tripathi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), stated an
inquiry is underway, but no foul play has been detected.
