Guwahati (Assam), 26 August (HS): In a major crackdown on illegal drug trade, a City Guwahati Police Department (CGPD) team from Noonmati Police Station carried out a successful raid at Carbon Gate area on the basis of specific input.

During the raid, police apprehended a 30-year-old woman identified as Joon Devi, allegedly involved in drug peddling. From her residence, the police team seized 23.54 grams of heroin packed in 18 vials, along with 12 empty vials, six mobile phones, ₹12,375 in cash, and a brass bowl used in the process of handling drugs.

The entire search and seizure operation was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, as per legal procedure. Police sources confirmed that necessary legal action has been initiated against the accused and further investigation is underway to trace her supply network and possible links with larger drug cartels.

Authorities said this operation is part of the ongoing intensified drive against drug trafficking in the city, as Guwahati Police continues to clamp down on peddlers to curb the menace of narcotics in Assam.
