Kamrup (Assam), 26 August (HS): Police have arrested Sahajamal Haque, a most-wanted cyber criminal accused in a multi-crore fraud case. Haque, a resident of Sonatali in Boko, was nabbed during a special operation by Panbazar Police.

According to police, Haque cheated people of crores of rupees through fake investment apps and other fraudulent methods, leaving many victims financially ruined.

Sources revealed that apart from Haque, several youths from the Sonatali area are also involved in such cyber crimes. The fraud network allegedly operates nationwide, with criminals amassing thousands of crores within just a few years.

It is further alleged that these cyber criminals from Sonatali maintain close links with influential political leaders and government officials. Reports even claim that some senior leaders have stayed as guests at the houses of these fraudsters.

The development raises a major concern—who will protect common people from fraudsters thriving under political and administrative patronage?
