Guwahati (Assam), 26 August (HS): In a major breakthrough against circulation of fake currency, a team from the Crime Branch, Guwahati, has apprehended a man and seized a huge consignment of suspected Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).

According to official sources, the arrested person has been identified as Md. Jahidul Ali (30), a resident of Biswanath district. He was apprehended during an operation conducted at Survey, Beltola, Guwahati.

During the search, officials recovered 21 bundles of suspected FICN, all in ₹500 denomination notes, amounting to a total face value of ₹10.5 lakh.

Police said that the seizure points towards the possibility of a wider racket involved in the circulation of counterfeit notes in the state. Preliminary investigation is underway to trace the source of the fake currency and other individuals possibly linked to the network.

Meanwhile, legal action has been initiated against the accused, and further interrogation is expected to reveal more leads about the supply chain.
