Agartala, 26 August (HS): Alert Border Security Force (BSF) personnel foiled multiple smuggling attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border during the intervening night of August 25–26, 2025, seizing contraband items valued at around ₹1.4 crore, BSF PRO informed on Tuesday.

According to officials, the vigilant troops of BSF deployed in different sectors of the border successfully intercepted several groups of smugglers attempting to push cattle, ganja (cannabis) and a large consignment of Yaba tablets into Bangladesh. The seizures were made during separate operations carried out in vulnerable stretches of the international border.

Preliminary reports suggest that the recovered cattle were meant to be smuggled across to Bangladesh through illegal routes, while the narcotics—comprising ganja and highly addictive Yaba tablets—were also intended for the cross-border illegal trade.

BSF sources informed that the joint efforts of intelligence-based patrolling and intensified night surveillance helped in curbing the smuggling bids. The seized items have been handed over to concerned authorities for further legal proceedings.

Officials further stressed that such operations underscore BSF’s commitment to curbing trans-border crimes, especially illegal cattle smuggling and drug trafficking, which remain serious challenges along the Indo-Bangladesh frontier.
