Imphal, 26 August (HS): Security Forces and Manipur Police continued their intensified operations across the state, leading to the recovery of a huge cache of arms and explosives, multiple arrests of militant cadres, and the detection of vehicle theft cases in last 24 hours.

Police PRO informed on Tuesday that a joint operation in Singtom village under Sugnu Police Station, Kakching district yielded a significant haul of weapons and military equipment. The recovery included one INSAS rifle with an empty magazine, one bolt action rifle, two 51mm mortars, two country-made carbines, one .32 pistol with an empty magazine, seven IEDs, four Pompi launchers, 56 live rounds of assorted calibres, 25 empty cartridges, four tear smoke shells, two tear smoke grenades, a Baofeng handset with charger, one BP cover, two pairs of tactical boots and a waist belt.

The crackdown on militant groups also brought notable successes. A KCP (MFL) rebel, identified as Thongam Indrajit Meitei (33) of Takhel Mamang Leikai, Imphal East, was apprehended near his residence. An Aadhaar card was seized from him. Earlier, Security Forces arrested a PLA operative, Phanjoubam Ramanada Singh alias Tiger alias Panamba (23) of Andro Kharam Leikai, from Huikap Makha Leikai in Imphal East, along with a mobile phone and SIM card. The same day, a KCP (PWG) rebel named Oinam Somenchandra Singh (41) alias Macha alias Langamba alias Moirangjao was nabbed at Taothong Khunou in Imphal West. Involved in extortion activities in the valley, he was found with a pistol and magazine in his possession.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police continued its relentless drive against vehicle-related crimes. During the investigation of a case registered at Imphal Police Station, two vehicle lifters were arrested. The accused were identified as Takhellambam Nongshaba Singh (20) of Uripok Polem Leikai, presently at Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai, and Haobam Sanayai Singh (25) of Itam Nungoi Khunou. A stolen four-wheeler, a Maruti Swift Dzire (Reg. No. MN 06 LA 1917), was recovered from their possession.

Authorities said the operations demonstrate the continuing efforts of Security Forces and Manipur Police to curb militancy, maintain law and order, and check criminal activities across the state.
