New Delhi, Aug 25 (HS): A 21-year-old youth allegedly attempted suicide by jumping off the Yamuna Bridge near DND Flyway late Sunday night in southeast Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area. Despite overnight search operations by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Fire Department, his whereabouts remain untraced.
According to DCP (Southeast) Dr. Hemant Tiwari, a PCR call was received around 11:22 p.m. reporting that the youth had leapt from the bridge during a video call. Police rushed to the spot and recovered a motorcycle and a mobile phone from the bridge.
The caller, identified as Suman, told police that the victim was her brother, Ritik (21), who had been living with her in Karol Bagh while seeking employment. She revealed that Ritik had been depressed for the past few months following disputes with his girlfriend. During a heated video call with his sister on Sunday night, he suddenly jumped from the bridge.
Following the incident, police immediately alerted NDRF, the Fire Department and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). Within 15–20 minutes, motorboat teams were deployed to the Yamuna for the rescue operation. However, despite hours of extensive search operations through the night, no trace of the youth has been found so far. The search is still underway.
