New Delhi, Aug 25 (HS): In a heart-stopping finale at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday night, the South Delhi Superstarz held their nerve to edge past Central Delhi Queens by just one run and claim the Women’s Delhi Premier League 2025 title. Having finished runners-up last season, the Superstarz went one step further this time to be crowned champions.
Chasing 122 for victory, the Queens faltered after losing early wickets and saw rain interruptions further stall their momentum. At 74/5, their hopes rested on Monika (33 off 28) and *Riya Shaukeen (28 off 28)**, who steadied the innings with a 33-run partnership for the sixth wicket. But Monika’s dismissal at a crucial stage turned the tide, and the lower order collapsed. The Queens finished on 120/8 in 20 overs, agonizingly short by a single run.
For the Superstarz, Meghavi Bidhuri starred with the ball, taking 3/26 in 3 overs, while Himakshi Chaudhary delivered a tight spell of 2/18 from 4 overs.
Earlier, opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Superstarz also struggled for momentum. While Tanishka Singh (14) and Shivi Sharma (29) provided some stability, it was Tanisha Singh (28) and Shivi who stitched an important 50-run stand in the middle. The Queens pulled things back through sharp bowling spells from Priya Mishra (2/19), Nidhi Mahato (2/24) and Saachi (2/7). However, captain Shweta Sehrawat (34 off 24) anchored her side till the end, guiding them to 121/8 in 20 overs — a score that ultimately proved match-winning.
Brief Scores:
South Delhi Superstarz: 121/8 in 20 overs (Shweta Sehrawat 34, Shivi Sharma 29, Tanisha Singh 28; Priya Mishra 2/19, Nidhi Mahato 2/24, Saachi 2/7)
Central Delhi Queens: 120/8 in 20 overs (Monika 33, Riya Shaukeen 28*; Meghavi Bidhuri 3/26, Himakshi Chaudhary 2/18)
The razor-thin finish brought the crowd to its feet, as the Superstarz held their composure to script a famous title win.
