Hooghly, 25 August (H.S.) In Srirampur village of Purshudra block of Hooghly district, a son has beaten his 80-year-old mother Champa Pramanik and thrown her out of the house. Moreover, he went to Purshudra BDO office and declared his mother dead.
For nearly two months, old Champa Pramanik has been lying alone at the gate of Purshudra Rural Hospital. There is a forest in front, there is terror of jackals at night. Local people are afraid that something untoward may happen anytime.
Unfortunately, Champa Pramanik has not been able to get the benefit of widow pension, old age pension, or “Bangla Awas Yojana”.
Khokan Dhak, a tea vendor of the village, feeds her tea, pav, biscuits and sometimes ghugni-mudi from his meager income. A cook of the hospital gives her rice every afternoon. However, the hospital management has objected to this.
Champa said while crying, My son and daughter-in-law beat me and threw me out of the house. They snatched the registry of my land, broke the house. I had received old age pension once, but never again. I went to the BDO office, I was told that I would get it, but I got nothing. The government should take care of me, give me food and punish my son.
When a journalist asked the accused son Gautam about this, he got angry and said, Who is that woman? She is not my mother. I beat her and threw her out, I did the right thing. She did not give me anything, so I threw her out. Now no matter how she lives, I don't care.
After this, he pushed the journalist and ran away.
Local tea vendor Khokan said, Look at the act of this ungrateful son. He went to the BDO office with his Aadhar card and said that his mother is dead. He is not even worthy of being called a human being.
Vice President of Purshudha Panchayat Samiti Sheikh Khokan said, This is a very inhuman incident. I will reach the office on Monday and look into this matter on priority. Whatever government benefits are available will be provided to the old lady. It will also be seen what action may be taken against the son.
