Chennai, 25 August (H.S.) : A recent survey conducted by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has brought to light a concerning issue affecting the city's infrastructure - over 40,000 streetlights are dysfunctional across Chennai. This has raised serious concerns about public safety and the city's overall illumination.
The GCC has taken note of the situation and is actively working to address the issue. In a bid to improve the city's lighting, the corporation plans to install more than 5,500 new LED streetlights in several locations identified as 'dark spots' under the Nirbhaya scheme. Additionally, the GCC is working to repair faulty LED streetlights, having called for e-tenders to fix around 750 malfunctioning lights in response to public complaints.
The Electrical Department of the GCC is responsible for the installation and maintenance of streetlights and other electrical installations in the city's buildings, schools, and public spaces. The corporation is working to ensure that the streets of Chennai are well-lit and safe for its residents.
This development comes as part of the GCC's broader efforts to enhance the city's infrastructure and services. Residents can expect improvements in public lighting and overall safety as the corporation continues to work on addressing these issues.
