New Delhi, Aug 25 (HS): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday strongly condemned the police action against Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exam aspirants protesting at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, alleging that students demanding justice were met with brutal lathicharge instead of being heard.
Taking to X, Kejriwal wrote that aspirants have been fighting for justice for months, but instead of addressing their grievances, police unleashed batons on them under the cover of darkness. “The hands that should be holding books today carry wounds of lathis,” he stated, calling the action an assault on students’ democratic rights.
The AAP chief further claimed that media personnel were prevented from covering the protest. “This is hooliganism in broad daylight. Students are silenced with lathis, people are jailed arbitrarily, and laws are changed at will. The BJP has reduced not just democracy, but the entire system to a mockery,” he added.
AAP’s Delhi state convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj, addressing a press conference at the party office, alleged that the Sunday protest by aspirants and teachers was entirely peaceful until the government ordered electricity to be cut at Ramlila Maidan before police resorted to violence.
He said that SSC aspirants and their families toil for years preparing for exams, but repeated irregularities in major recruitments like SSC and NEET have left hardworking students unemployed, while those with money and influence secure government jobs through fraud.
