New Delhi, Aug 25 (HS): On his official visit to India, Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka on Monday paid a courtesy call on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Murmu warmly welcomed the visiting leader and his delegation, recalling with fondness her August 2024 visit to Fiji, where she was deeply touched by the traditional welcome from tribal elders and the interactions with the Indian-origin community.

She underlined the vital role of the Girmitiya community in shaping Fiji’s multicultural identity, inclusive society, and dynamic economy. The President reiterated India’s commitment to partner with Fiji in its priority areas, including healthcare, capacity-building, training, and climate resilience. Welcoming the MoU signed for establishing a super-speciality hospital in Fiji, she described it as a milestone in healthcare collaboration.

Highlighting capacity building as a cornerstone of the India-Fiji partnership, Murmu pointed to training opportunities provided under ITEC programmes and offered India’s readiness to share its experience in digital public infrastructure such as UPI, Jan-Dhan and Aadhaar.

Expressing satisfaction at Fiji’s prioritisation of stronger bilateral ties with India, both leaders voiced confidence that Prime Minister Rabuka’s visit would open new avenues of cooperation and deliver tangible benefits to the peoples of both nations.
