Guwahati (Assam), 25 August (HS): An unidentified dead body was recovered on Monday from the Bashishta River in the Sijubari area of the capital. Locals spotted the body floating in the river and immediately informed the police.

The Hathigaon police team rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. Residents suspect that the deceased may have been murdered and the body dumped in the river.

Police have sent the body to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. The identity of the victim was yet to be established till the filing of this report.--------------
