Bhubaneswar, 25 August (H.S.): Passengers at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar can now enjoy affordable food and beverage options with the launch of the ‘Udaan Yatri Cafe’. The facility was officially inaugurated on Monday by Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu.
The cafe is part of a broader Central government initiative to provide budget-friendly refreshments at airports, addressing long-standing passenger concerns over high food prices at airport terminals.
Unlike premium outlets, the Udaan Yatri Cafe offers essential items at significantly lower prices — tea for ₹10, packaged water for ₹10, coffee for ₹20, samosas for ₹20, and a “sweet of the day” for ₹20. According to the café operators, prices have been deliberately kept low to ensure accessibility and convenience for all types of travelers.
Speaking at the launch event, Minister Naidu emphasized the need for inclusive facilities at airports. “Air travel is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity for many. With the Udaan Yatri Cafe, we aim to provide affordable amenities for everyone, regardless of their ticket class,” he said.
He further added that the café aligns with the objectives of the government’s flagship UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, which seeks to make air travel more inclusive and accessible across India.
