Ballia, 24 Aug (HS): A BJP member was detained here on
Sunday for allegedly attacking a Dalit engineer with a shoe inside his
workplace, police said. A claimed video of the event circulated on social
media, depicting Lal Singh, the power department's superintending engineer,
getting assaulted. The incident took place on Saturday, according to the police
report. In his complaint, Lal Singh alleged that a guy named Munna Bahadur and
three unidentified persons entered his office without authorization. They
allegedly used caste-based insults and derogatory language before beating him
with kicks, punches, and a shoe, according to Superintendent of Police Om Veer
Singh. The assailants allegedly tore up some key documents and threatened to
murder Lal Singh and his family if he filed a police case.
The video depicts
a violent debate between the police and a group of individuals, which resulted
in the officer being pummeled. Akhilesh Yadav, head of the Samajwadi Party and
former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, uploaded the video with the remark,
The meaning of power is not to torment. Before being detained,
Munna Bahadur told reporters that he went to Lal Singh's office to submit a
memorandum about electricity difficulties in his region, and the superintending
engineer was disrespectful to him. Munna Bahadur claimed that he was assaulted
and injured. The SP stated that Munna Bahadur and those with him were charged
under various provisions of the BNS and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities)
Act.
We have arrested
Munna Bahadur, and an inquiry is ongoing. Any other individuals found to be
engaged will face appropriate legal punishment, according to the officer. Munna
Bahadur, according to BJP District President Sanjay Mishra, is a party worker
and previous party office-bearer. Mishra stated that he is consulting with
Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh and other party officials to determine the
BJP's course of action in the issue.
