Imphal, 24 August (HS): Intensifying counter-insurgency measures, security forces in Manipur have arrested multiple rebels and seized contraband in a series of operations conducted over the last 24 hours. The drive also ensured the safe passage of essential supplies across the state.
On August 23, security personnel nabbed Oinam Bungobi Meitei alias Langmei (31), a self-styled rebel of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), from Chingarel Tejpur, Waiton Lamkhai in Imphal East. An Aadhaar card was recovered from him. On the same day, Khundongbam Biker alias Khaiba alias Pari (23), a rebel of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-PRO), was arrested from Angtha village in Imphal East. Another arrest was made in Bishnupur district, where Pukhrambam Tangba Singh (34), a rebel of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Nongdrenkhomba), was held from his residence in Ningthoukhong Mayai Leikai.
Earlier, Manipur Police recovered 236 grams of brown sugar packed in 20 soap cases, along with ₹3.87 lakh in cash, from a house in Songsibok Thingkangphai village, Churachandpur district. The owner of the house was identified as Chinsiathang (52) of Tangpijol village in Singngat sub-division.
That day also saw the arrest of Leimapokpam Shanjeet Singh alias Naobi (52), a KCP (MFL) rebel engaged in extortion. A mobile handset, a demand letter of the group and an Aadhaar card were seized from him.
Meanwhile, security forces continue extensive search operations and area dominance exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas of both hill and valley districts. On Saturday, 130 vehicles transporting essential commodities moved along NH-37 under armed convoy protection. Currently, 113 checkpoints are operational across the state, though no detentions were reported during checks.
