Imphal, 24 August (HS): A major anti-narcotics drive in Manipur has led to the arrest of five individuals and the recovery of a large consignment of methamphetamine tablets, vehicles, and cash records. The operation was jointly carried out by Manipur Police, CRPF, and BSF on August 23.

Those taken into custody include Md. Mustakim (39) and Md. Arif (20), both residents of Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok; Md. Ajit (32) of Lilong Makha Leikai along with his wife Ruhima (26); and Md. Baboy alias Yahiya Khan (35) of Kyamgei Mamang Leikai.

From Mustakim’s house, police recovered 2.27 kg of WY tablets, while Baboy’s residence yielded another 45 grams. Authorities also seized six mobile phones, several account ledgers and diaries, two vehicles allegedly used in trafficking— a Renault Duster (ML05L-0490) and an Alto (AS05N-7322)— as well as 120 empty plastic containers.

Police revealed that two of the accused have a history of involvement in the drug trade. Mustakim was earlier arrested in Guwahati in 2022 for transporting heroin and had recently been released on bail in January 2025. Similarly, Baboy had faced arrest in 2020 for smuggling 7,000 WY tablets and was freed on bail in 2023.

Investigations into the network are ongoing.

In a separate drive against traffic violations, Manipur Police also reported issuing 84 challans worth ₹1,37,500 on August 23, besides removing tinted films from three vehicles a day earlier.
