New Delhi, Aug 24 (HS):

Bimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra, a senior member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and popularly known as the “King of Ayodhya,” passed away late Saturday night at his royal residence. He was 75. His death has cast a pall of grief across Ayodhya.

Mishra held a pivotal role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement’s later phase. Following the Supreme Court’s landmark verdict on the Babri Masjid–Ram Janmabhoomi dispute in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated him as the very first senior trustee of the newly constituted Ram Mandir Trust. He was also the first to receive the official charge of the temple premises from the then Ayodhya Commissioner, who acted as receiver of the disputed land.

Known both for his lineage rooted in Ayodhya’s royal heritage and his devout presence in temple affairs, Mishra enjoyed deep respect in religious and cultural circles. Locally revered as “Raja Ayodhya,” he was seen as a bridge between tradition, faith, and modern governance of the temple trust.

His demise marks the end of an era of royal stewardship intertwined with the Ram Mandir’s contemporary journey. Condolences have poured in from across religious, political, and cultural spheres, reflecting his stature as a spiritual custodian and symbolic figure for Ayodhya.
