Imphal, 23 August (HS): In a series of counter-insurgency operations, security forces arrested two individuals in Imphal districts on charges of extortion and illegal possession of arms.

In Imphal East, an active member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Taibanganba) was taken into custody. The cadre, identified as 44-year-old Kshetrimayum Bhogendro Singh, alias Yaiphaba alias Prem, was picked up from his residence at Khongman Zone-III under Irilbung Police Station. Officials revealed that Singh had been collecting money from shopkeepers and residents in Imphal East and Imphal West to finance the outfit’s activities. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were seized during the operation.

On the same day, another suspect, Pukhrambam Mani Singh (25) of Sagolmang Mamang Leikai, was apprehended at New Keithelmanbi Bazar in Imphal West. Security personnel recovered a country-made pistol, a magazine, and one 9mm live round from his possession.

Authorities confirmed that both arrested individuals are being interrogated, and further investigations are underway to trace their network and assess the extent of their involvement in unlawful activities.
