Raniganj, 22 August (H.S.) When 18 workers were descending into the mine at the 'CP' (C-pit) of Banshra colliery under Raniganj police station at around 9:20 am on Friday, their cabin got stuck midway due to a sudden power failure. Due to this, they remained hanging at a depth of 600 feet inside the mine for about one and a half hours.
After the power was restored at around 11:00 am, the administration and colliery officials started the rescue work and safely evacuated the trapped workers. During the incident, there was a lot of concern and anger among the mining workers, many workers surrounded the officials. They repeatedly complained that such incidents often happen there and better power system is being ignored. This week itself, one worker has died and many were injured in an incident of waterlogging in another mine in the area. These incidents have again raised serious questions about the safety of workers in the mining sector.
