Political Parties Flay Actor Vijay for Targeting Their Leaders

Chennai, 22 August (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu's political landscape has been abuzz with controversy after actor-turned-politician Vijay targeted various party leaders at the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) conference in Madurai. The ruling DMK, opposition AIADMK, and BJP have all joined forces in criticizing Vijay's comments, with each party questioning his understanding of politics and his party's ideology.

DMK Minister K N Nehru took strong exception to Vijay addressing Chief Minister M K Stalin as uncle, stating that this behavior displayed low political standards. The DMK backed by the people will give Vijay a fitting reply in the 2026 Assembly election, Nehru added. Similarly, BJP leader R Sarath Kumar dismissed Vijay as a political novice, questioning his grasp of complex issues like fascism.

Other leaders have also weighed in on the controversy. Former Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan criticized Vijay's speech, saying it seemed scripted and lacking in substance. He appeared to render dialogues, she said, comparing his performance to a one-day film show. AIADMK spokesperson Vaigai Selvan echoed these sentiments, predicting that Vijay and his party, TVK, would disappear after the 2026 Assembly polls.

At the TVK conference, Vijay targeted the DMK and BJP, among others, raising questions about their policies and ideologies. He specifically addressed the Prime Minister, asking him to take steps to retrieve the Katchatheevu islet from Sri Lanka and exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET. These comments have sparked intense debate and criticism from various quarters.

As the 2026 Assembly elections approach, Vijay's comments are seen as a bold move to stake his claim in Tamil Nadu politics. However, his critics argue that his party lacks a clear ideology and that his entry into politics may disrupt the existing political dynamics in the state. With various parties already positioning themselves for the elections, the battle for votes and support is expected to intensify in the coming months.
