Chennai, 22 August (H.S.) : PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has demanded that the Tamil Nadu government provide permanent jobs to temporary employees, citing a recent Supreme Court judgment that condemned the practice of making temporary appointments in government departments. Anbumani criticized the state government for routinely making temporary appointments, saying that this practice exploits workers and violates their dignity.
According to Anbumani, the Supreme Court's judgment emphasized that governments are not mere market participants but constitutional employment agencies, and the burden of financial deficits should not be placed on the backs of employees performing basic functions. He urged the government to take steps to make all temporary employees in government departments permanent, ensuring equal rights and opportunities in employment.
The PMK leader's demand comes amid concerns over the exploitation of temporary workers in various government departments. Anbumani pointed out that nearly half of the appointments made since the DMK came to power are temporary, highlighting the need for course correction. He also referenced the government's failure to fulfill its poll promises of filling vacancies and creating jobs.
This is not the first time Anbumani has raised concerns about temporary workers. Earlier, he demanded a white paper from the DMK government on the number of jobs provided and measures to fulfill poll promises. Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare MRK Paneerselvam responded to Anbumani's demands, questioning whether he could offer jobs to workers if certain corporations were closed.
The issue affects thousands of temporary workers in government departments, who face uncertainty and exploitation. Anbumani's demand for permanent jobs aims to address this issue and ensure workers' rights and dignity. The PMK leader's efforts have sparked debate, with some questioning the feasibility of providing permanent jobs to all temporary workers ¹ ² ³.
