Malda, 22 August (H.S.) A tragic and mysterious incident has rattled the Chakbahadurpur area under the Vishnavenagar police station in Malda. On Thursday night, three members of the same family suddenly fell ill after consuming food and water at home. They were rushed to the rural hospital in Bedirabad and later transferred to Malda Medical College Hospital. The minor granddaughter, aged 10, dies on the way to the hospital, while the grandmother (65) and daughter-in-law (35) died during treatment. The deceased have been identified as Pushpa Mondal (65), Bulty Mondal (35), and Piyu Mondal (10).

The initial suspicion is possible food or water poisoning, as the family’s tube-well water and home-cooked food are being examined. Intriguingly, although all nine family members had consumed the same meal and water, only these three fell critically ill and died. The possibility of suicide or foul play is also under consideration.

Malda’s Superintendent of Police, Pradeep kumar Yadav, confirmed that the three bodies have been sent for post-mortem and that the investigation is underway. He emphasized that the cause of death cannot be determined until the forensic report arrives.
