Kakching (Manipur), 22 August (HS): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Manipur Police apprehended four persons from the Wabagai Lamkhai Thongkha locality under Kakching Police Station.
Those arrested have been identified as Thinmai Kaisidindou Liangmei (53) of Taban village, Tamenglong; Dinthuibou Chawang (27) of Tabam village, Tamenglong; Lunghipuiliu (37) of Kawalong, Tamenglong; and Nanathongliu (42) of Makui village, Kangpokpi.
According to police, the operation led to the recovery of 91 soap cases filled with heroin powder weighing 1.12 kg. Along with the narcotics, a Bolero vehicle, five mobile phones, and two Aadhaar cards were seized. A case has been registered, and investigations are on to uncover the larger supply chain.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have stepped up actions on multiple fronts. In Kakching, drives against traffic violations have been intensified. One vehicle was detained for flouting rules and tinted films were removed from six others. The following day, police issued 35 challans, imposing fines amounting to ₹83,000.
Security operations in Bishnupur district have also yielded results. A search launched in the Sunusiphai Patton area under Moirang Police Station resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with magazine, an SBBL, 15 live rounds, 23 empty cartridges, a smoke grenade, a Baofeng radio set, six bulletproof jackets, and four bulletproof helmets.
Officials emphasized that these coordinated operations are part of the ongoing strategy to curb narcotics, arms smuggling, and motor vehicle-related offences while ensuring public safety in the state.
