New Delhi, August 22 (HS): The Delhi Police on Friday questioned five individuals in Gujarat’s Rajkot in connection with the recent attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. One of them, identified as Taisin Saiyyad, is being brought to Delhi for further investigation.
According to police sources, Saiyyad allegedly transferred money to the assailant Rajesh Sakaria, who had attacked the Chief Minister. Investigators are also tracing at least 10 people who were reportedly in touch with the accused through calls and messages.
The incident occurred on Wednesday during a public grievance session when Sakaria, who was waiting in queue, suddenly pushed past other complainants and forcibly confronted the Chief Minister. In the scuffle, he shoved her, causing Gupta to fall and sustain minor injuries on her head and shoulder. The attacker was overpowered and caught on the spot.
Police have registered a case against Sakaria under charges including attempt to murder. Preliminary inquiry suggests he had reviewed footage of previous public hearings before executing the assault. Investigators are now probing his wider network and possible motives behind the attack.
